Hi Niketa,

Thanks for your recycling question. Every question helps us build a stronger platform for providing better recycling solutions.

Size can be a determinant of if and how items can be recycled.

As a rule of thumb, items smaller than a credit card are too small to be recycled on their own. Small items become lost in gaps in the machinery and can cause damage and delays at the recycling facility.

Instead, your council recommends squeezing plastic lids inside a plastic bottle (such as a milk bottle) before placing them altogether in your recycling bin.

Similarly, small metal bottle tops such as beer bottle lids can be placed in your home recycling bin in your council area if placed inside another recyclable metal container such as a tin food can (i.e. for beetroot, pineapple etc.) and slightly squeezing the opening closed to prevent them from falling out during the recycling process.

I hope that you find this information useful.

Thanks Murphy
