Not all envelopes are made equal. If your envelope has a layer of paper AND a layer of plastic that can't easily be separated, it can't be recycled through most home recycling systems. The envelope will end up in the paper and cardboard material stream where the plastic layer is a contaminant.
Please dispose of these types of envelopes in your general waste bin.
