Hi Bruce,

Thank you for your recycling enquiry about plastic cups.

In most council areas, rigid plastic cups (like those used for cold drinks) can be placed in your kerbside recycling bin, as long as they are clean and free of any food or liquid. However, soft plastic cups (such as flexible takeaway lids or squishy plastic) are not recyclable in kerbside bins and should go in your general waste.

If your cup has a recycling symbol, check the number inside it — plastics labeled 1 (PET) or 5 (PP) are commonly accepted in recycling programs.

Thank you again for getting in touch. Feel free to contact Recycle Mate any time for help with tricky items!

Thanks Murphy
