Wishcycling — putting non-recyclable items into the recycling bin in the hope they’ll be recycled — causes serious problems:

  • Contamination: One incorrect item can spoil an entire batch of recycling, potentially sending it all to landfill.

  • Operational issues: Items that are the wrong shape or size can jam sorting equipment, leading to safety hazards and expensive downtime at recycling facilities.

  • Increased costs: Sorting and removing non-recyclables adds time and expense to the recycling process.

It's always better to check first — when in doubt, leave it out.

Kind regards,
Murphy
