This is understandably a source of confusion - across Australia the guidelines for how to recycle or safely dispose of different types of plastic lids vary widely!
In many council areas loose single-use plastic bottle lids are not recyclable in your home recycling bins. Items like plastic lids are too small and will slip through the gaps in collection and sorting equipment.
In your local area it is recommended that small plastic items like these are placed in your general waste bin at home for disposal.
However, we don’t make the rules! We continually engage with local governments to verify whether they do or do not accept particular items in their bins and if there are any requirements for recycling or disposal.
