This is understandably a source of confusion—across Australia, guidelines for recycling or safely disposing of different types of plastic lids vary widely!
In many council areas, loose single-use plastic bottle lids are not recyclable in your home recycling bins because these small items slip through gaps in collection and sorting equipment.
In your local area, it is recommended that small plastic items like these be placed in your general waste bin for disposal.
However, please note we don’t make the rules! We continually engage with local governments to verify whether they accept particular items and if there are any special requirements for recycling or disposal.
